TENA STRETCH SUPER ADULT BRIEFS FULL REVIEW

SIZING

The Tena Stretch Super Diaper comes in two sizes:

    •Medium/Regular 33” to 52” waist or hip

    •Large/X-Large 41” to 64” waist or hip

The fit of the Tena Super gets a ”very good” rating due to the fact that they do fit well at the larger end of their size listing due to the fact that the entire backing of the product is cloth and the hook and loop TAB (yes, 1 tab on each side) will attach wherever you want to put it so you can attach them all the way at the end of the front wings of the diaper.  As noted, they have ONE 2” to 3” wide hook and loop tab on each side that attaches to a “belt” sort of deal that stretches.  These shouldn’t be confused with “belted undergarments” that are mentioned on the Absorbent Product Types page because they are indeed a full diaper.  We’ll talk more about this below.

CONSTRUCTION

The Tena Stretch Super has a green cloth like outer covering with a double line wetness indicator in the middle that you turns to blue when the diaper is wet.   There is ONE very large velcro like tab on each side.  The tab is 2” to 3” wide and has a strip of hook material at the end of it that attaches to the cloth like backing anywhere you want to put it.  The Tena Super also has NO standing inner leak barriers but has very effective elastic at the legs and no waistband.

Cloth-Like Backing

This diaper has a green cloth like outer covering that seems VERY strong.  For some reason Tena goes with a green color for their backings (both plastic in the past and cloth now).  Like the purple of the Molicare Super Plus, I think it’s a trademark thing.  Wearing these, I have not noted any stretching or binding of the cloth like backing.  I was also pleasantly surprised to notice that these DO NOT have the damp or clammy feeling on the outside when they are saturated like other adult diapers with cloth like backings!  Now, this is not to say they are perfect.  The sides are totally breathable which, while comfortable and cool in summer, can result in wetness leaking from the sides if it runs outside of the padded area.  This backing makes NO noise WHATSOEVER under everyday clothing!  No one would be able to tell you were wearing a diaper from the noise standpoint.

Elastic Leg Bands

As previously noted, this diaper does NOT have an elastic waist band at all.  The elastic at the leg openings is VERY effective at giving a snug fit around the legs and in the leg creases.  Tena uses a “curved leg elastic” that comes up much higher on the outside of the padded area than other diaper manufacturers.  This results in a very comfortable and snug fit and gives awesome leakage protection!  If the lower tape is fastened comfortably snug, the elastic will flex as you move, keeping the diaper snug against your skin without allowing leakage.  The other nice feature is the diaper will flex and stretch at the sides due tot the “belts” that the hook and loop tabs are on (hence the name Tena STRETCH Super).

Standing Inner Leak Barriers

As noted above, the Tena Super has NO standing inner leak barriers.  I did not find that this caused any issues at all with protection.  Their use of the “curved leg elastics” seems to have made standing inner leak barriers obsolete, at least on their diaper.

Padding Size, Shape and Thickness

The padding shape on this diaper is the “figure 8” shape with padding out toward the wings in the back and front, as you can see from the picture above.  While the padding does not wrap all the way around the sides, it comes out far enough in the front and back to catch any wetness,  As noted above, the “curved elastics” really contribute to a snug fit  The padding that extends out toward the wings in the front is about 4” narrower than it is in the back.  This allows a good, less bulky fit but still gives enough padding to make this a very protective product.

The padding on this product is not all that bulky for it's absorbency. The padding is just a little thinner than the padding on the Molicare Super Plus Brief  Under everyday clothing, this product would not be obvious at all, unless you were wearing spandex or other tight fitting shorts or pants.  The padding seems to absorb very quickly and wick very well.  Usually, you can utilize every inch of the padding in regards to wetness without a leak.  This diaper is DEFINITELY an excellent choice for heavy daytime protection, especially for women!  This product would most likely work very well for women at night, but due to its’ totally breathable side panels, I can’t recommend it for heavy overnight incontinence for MEN.  If you are a man who deals with overflow or stress incontinence at night, then this diaper would probably work fine.  But if you’re a man who deals with heavy urge or reflex incontinence at night, I’d stick with a plastic backed diaper.

Single Large Hook Tabs

As noted earlier, the Tena Super uses VERY EFFECTIVE hook and loop tabs (one on each side unlike most other adult diapers).  These tabs grip and WON’T pop off or slide across the product surface.  The only down side to them is that the hook and loop surface comes RIGHT to the end and sides of the tab, which means grasping them to pull them off the cloth backing can be VERY difficult for someone with arthritis or bad dexterity.  They can be difficult to deal with for someone who has NO dexterity problems.  The up side is if you can’t grasp the tab at the end, you can grasp the “belt” that the tab is attached to and pull the tab off with it.

QUALITY

The quality of the Tena Super is remarkable!  I have never see padding outside of the padded area of the diaper, polymer and padding distribution seems totally even and equal and I have never had an experience with a hook and loop tab being missing (never put on the diaper at the factory).  VERY well made for the money!

APPEARANCE

A green plastic backing.  Well, what can I say?  It is NOT bright or fluorescent or anything, but why not white?  Under very thin cotton pants, it does not appear that it will show through, as it is a very dull green.  I just have an aversion to colored diapers, as they are not “underwear color”, I guess..  Other than that, they are fine.  There are no heavy dark or very bright markings on them that would make them stand out.  Even the wetness indicator is pretty low key, and if your urine isn’t the right PH, sometimes the wetness indicator does not turn blue even.

COMFORT

If you like a super tight fitting diaper, you will find these pretty comfortable!  The hook and loop tabs grip VERY well and you can fasten them anywhere on the diaper that you want, so you get a very custom fit.  The diaper really doesn’t tend to stretch much and the hook and loop tabs do NOT budge once applied, but unfasten and refasten pretty easily, aside from the difficulty in grasping the tab mentioned above..  The side stretch is GREAT if you want a diaper that stretches and flexes as you move without binding or bunching up!  If you want a really tight fit, go with the smaller of the two sizes if your waist is between 42” and 52”.

VALUE FOR THE PRICE

Depending on the company you buy from and the size you buy, this diaper can run anywhere from $1.40 to $1.50 per diaper!  For the protection, quality and unique design they offer, I don’t think you can go wrong for a diaper that offers as heavy protection as these do!  There are much less absorbent brands that come in that price range.  For those who prefer 1 fastening tab on each side, these are a must try!
