Yeast grow rapid in a situation where the pH and natural environment have been altered. There is a lot of speculation right now about yeast and it's overgrowth. Although the depends could be contributing to your particular situation, I would suspect this involvement is secondary to other factors. There are numerous good books that discuss yeast overgrowth in the body. I would start there and maybe talk to someone at your local health food store. They will be able to give you some sound advise on not just treating your current infection but preventing other infections. I hope this helps.
