If you don’t recognize the name of this product, there is a reason.  This is a TOTALLY NEW product that is being brought to the market by our sponsor XP Medical!  This is a basic diaper that offers premium performance at a basic diaper price.  Check out the review and then go over to XP Medical and check them out!

The Absorbency Plus Diaper comes in three sizes:

  1. Medium 28” to 40” waist or hip

  2. Large 38” to 50” waist or hip

  3. X-Large 48” to 60” waist or hip

As you can tell from the measurements above, the Absorbency Plus Adult Diaper by XP Medical is not sized like the average diaper on the market.  That said, I find that the WAIST of the diaper would fit very well in the measurements noted.  The leg openings though are a little on the small side, so if you are toward the last 3” inches of the top of the size range, I would move up to the next size.  That said, the fit for me was excellent and fit very nicely under everyday clothing without a bunch of bulk and extra room needed in my clothing!

The Absorbency Plus diaper has a PLAIN WHITE plastic outer backing, elastic leg bands, very generous padding size and shape and two VERY strong all white tapes on each side. We're going to cover each feature one by one here:

The trend has been toward a “cloth like” breathable outer backing on diapers nowadays. Personally I have only found two brands that have a good cloth backing on them, Attends

and Abena. Breathable means air flows through. What flows through with air? Odor! Also, most breathable covers feel damp or clammy on the outside to the touch. Anyway, I digress. The plastic backing on this product is very thin but VERY strong when you tape the diaper on comfortably snug. I did find that if I taped this product on SUPER tight, that the plastic backing can tear, as the tapes are SO strong that they do not lose grip at all. But, what I also found is that if you tape this product on SUPER tight it hurts performance.  More on that later.  Even though the backing is plastic, it does not make much noise at all under everyday clothing like other brands do. Under say jeans or heavy cotton pants, there is nearly no noise.  The noise that is there might be heard if you were in say, a quiet library.  Otherwise, it is no big deal.  If you are wearing this product under sweat pants, pajama pants or some other very thin pant or short, yes, you will hear noise from the plastic backing, as you would with any other plastic backed diaper.  I have seen NO problems with “pinholes” in the plastic backing on this product like I have on others.

OK, those of you who know me know I think elastic waists are an extra cost gimmick that is not really necessary. On this product, I am happy to report, there is NOT one.  With the absorbency and fit of this product, along with the crazy strong tapes, it is NOT needed and would be a waste of an extra expense.  The elastic at the legs is wide enough to work well and be comfortable but not so wide as to get in the way. It is very effective.

This is a “basic” product that does NOT have standing inner leak barriers.  What I have found though is that with the fit, padding and plastic cut and super fast initial and rewet absorbency they are, like an elastic waistband, NOT needed.  I am not kidding...for a heavy daytime diaper, this product really performs!  Now, understand that for the majority of us, this product is NOT a night time product, nor is XP Medical marketing it as a night time or “12 hour” diaper.  More on that later.

Padding Size, Shape and Thickness

Like the original version of the Dry 24/7 Brief (which is not in production right now) this product has probably the most generous padding area of any product I've ever worn, including Abena! If you look at the picture of the diaper, you will see the padding is in a “figure 8” shape with slightly wider padding in the rear. Some of you will complain there is no padding out in the wings of the product like I did when I first saw it. Let me tell you, it really isn't necessary on this product! I found that with the speed of the absorbency and again, the fit, that this is not such a big issue.  Now, if you try to use this product overnight and are a side sleeper, this could become an issue if you are a heavy wetter.  Unlike other brands, this product is very wide in regards to padding between the legs. Many women will not like this but for us guys, this is AWESOME! Many times, leakage happens between the legs for us guys as the padding is not wide enough to surround our genitals on each side and wetness heads for the side where there is not enough padding or diaper and leaks there. The width is also important in cases of bowel incontinence to prevent leakage.  For bowel incontinence issues, I found this product INCREDIBLY effective!  The way it fits, it forms a “pocket” in the back which contains any bowel movements.  The padding and plastic are generous enough in the back that should that “pocket” not contain everything, you are still protected.  It really saved me on one occasion!

Now, on to a topic some folks who like a really thick diaper are going to find disappointing...padding bulk, or in this products’ case, lack of bulk. For its’ incredible absorbency and protection, this product has very thin padding with a generous amount of polymer, which gives it fantastic performance without having a bulge under your pants when the diaper is dry.  The really nice thing is that the wetter it gets, it does NOT swell up like a balloon and the padding does NOT fall apart or down into the crotch!  Wetness spreads (wicks) very easily to drier areas of the padding, which keeps the product from leaking and you get more use of the product for your money.  Under regular comfortable fitting clothes, this diaper completely vanishes!  Could the noise the plastic backing makes “give you away”?  I really doubt it and if the diaper DOES make a little noise, I don’t think anyone would even give it a second thought.  In all my years of incontinence, I have never had anyone say to me “hey, are you wearing a diaper?”.  This diaper seems to buck the idea that BULK is needed for heavy absorbency.  XP Medical has really done their homework on pulp to polymer quantity and padding construction.  This product DOES NOT LEAK during daytime wear with reasonable change timing.  Can you eventually MAKE it leak? Sure, but under normal conditions, (NOT 12 hours of wear time, which is not healthy for the body anyway) leakage should not be a problem.

SUPER Strong Tape Tabs

This product has got to have the strongest tapes of any diaper I have EVER used.  Some people will not like the fact that they are NOT refastenable.  They consist of a one piece tape (two tapes per side) that once stuck to the diaper plastic, they DO NOT remove or come off without ripping the plastic.  This is the ONLY reason they received an “average” rating for ease of removal.  For those of us who are dependent on diapers full time and do not need to unfasten the tapes at any other time than at change time, these tapes are awesome!  They do not slide across the plastic backing, they do not come loose and they do NOT rip off of the back wings.  Frankly, I don’t think Super Glue holds as well as these tapes!

So far, having used only one bag of these briefs, I have found the quality to be outstanding!  I have not found one tape loose and stuck to the other part of the diaper, I have not had one issue with the cut, padding thickness, plastic backing strength, etc.. that I have had with most all other brands. If XP Medical’s manufacturer keeps this quality and consistency up, they will blow all of the other brands out of the water. This will remain to be seen as this is a new product to the market, but so far, so good

Ahh, a manufacturer who gets the fact that incontinence can be embarrassing enough without wearing a pink, blue, purple, peach or tan diaper! Who in the world ever decided on pink for a diaper color anyway?? They should be fired. Well, with this product, that factor is not there! These diapers are ALL WHITE.  If you were wearing this diaper under very thin white pants it would look like you were wearing plain white underwear, as even the TAPES are all white, with no logos, cutsy prints or other markings.. This white color applies to the medium, large and x-large sizes. As just mentioned, the tape tabs are all white, as you can see in the picture of the product.

These diapers are cut very generously as I noted previously.  For us guys, this diaper is very comfortable as it has the space we need. While dry, they are very comfortable and fit very well. Once wet, they remain very well fitting without sagging and falling apart. Skin dryness is EXCELLENT and stays that way until the product is saturated. The only complaint I really have is odor control. They do control it well for the most part, but if you wear the product long enough and you are not drinking a lot (meaning your urine is concentrated), an ammonia smell will build up after about 4 or so hours. If you are drinking normally and stay well hydrated though, odor is not a real big issue.  Since this information pretty well applies to every diaper on the market, it’s not a big deal.  Overall comfort is excellent!

Even though this diaper is a “basic, no frills” diaper, for those of us who need a good fitting daytime diaper and prefer the plastic backing, there is nothing in in the “basic” diaper realm that can even TOUCH the performance of this product!  Gary, the owner of XP Medical, who also lives with incontinence, is the one who designed this diaper and got it put into production for his company.  The fact that it has been designed by someone who actually USES incontinence products on a daily basis is reason enough to try the Absorbency Plus Adult Diaper, but price is another good reason!  By the case of 64 this diaper only costs $1.17 each!  If you prefer an all white diaper with a plastic backing, that has generous padding size, great absorbency and “super hero strong” tapes, you really need to check this product out!
